Melody provides leadership and expertise in bibliographic resources description and management. She is responsible for overseeing the original and copy cataloging of electronic and physical items. She performs ongoing batch process functions and bibliographic record loads from various systems. She also oversees records quality control activities, including management of the bibliographic, item and authority records in the integrated library system and management of resource description and resource management staff members and librarians. Additional responsibilities include: supervises and monitor collections transfer/withdrawal projects; develops and documents policies and procedures on the department intranet site; participates in planning, goal-setting, and assessing the effectiveness of staff and operations within the unit. Her research interests include information organization theory, advances in next-generation library systems, personal digital archiving, and cooperative metadata. She enjoys gardening, animal rescue, origami, Lego, and competitive Scrabble.
Melody received a Master of Library Science from the University of North Texas. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications & Media Studies with a minor in International Studies from Penn State, The Behrend College. Before joining the University of Houston she held positions with the Montana Shared Catalog Library Consortium at the Montana State Library and the Lincoln County Public Libraries in Montana.
