About

Emily Vinson is the Preservation Coordinator at the University of Houston Libraries. In this role, she supports physical preservation activities across the Libraries and manages audio and moving image preservation and digitization initiatives. Emily has managed multiple grants to support the preservation and access of the Libraries' audiovisual materials, including KUHT's historic educational television programs, interviews from the This Is Our Home, It Is Not For Sale documentary, and most recently, thousands of hours of broadcasts made for and by Houston's LGBTQ community between the 1970s and early 2000s, all available at https://av.lib.uh.edu/

Emily's research interests are public broadcasting history, speech-to-text technology, and the prospect of using computational analysis to unlock research potential in audiovisual collections.

Background

Emily holds a M.S. in Information Studies from the University of Texas at Austin, with a Certificate of Advanced Study in Preservation Administration.

Prior to joining the University of Houston Libraries, Emily was an archivist at Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy, New York Public Radio Archives, and New York Public Library.
